Senior Arludo Virtual Incursion

Our learners met with Associate Professor Michael Kasumovic, Arludo’s founder, who gave them an introduction to the online challenge (a quick overview of what students will do and how video games will help them explore a science concept) and shared information about behavioural and structural adaptations of living things.

On Tuesday the Senior learning community had an incursion about adaptations and features of different animals. Dr Micheal taught us lots of facts about animals and how they adapt to their environment to survive. I really enjoyed listening and learning about all the adaptations of different spiders. We learnt that an adaptation is something that helps living organisms survive. I found it very interesting that the male spiders can live for 2-3 months, but female spiders live for 2-3 years. I had a really good time and I’m really excited to participate in Dr Michael’s animal adaptations challenge.

On Tuesday, the Year 5’s and 6’s had an incursion about adaptations of animals. We spoke to Professor Micheal about his lizard game ‘Inglorious Baskers’ which we played last week. The game involved us playing as lizards and trying to survive in our habitats for as long as possible. Through this game we were able to collect data for Professor Micheal which showed us the many different ways we died and the things we did to help us survive. I learnt that some species of spiders can live up to 10-15 years. He answered lots of questions about being a biologist, what a biologist researches and many other questions on other animals that Professor Micheal has researched on. I had a lot of fun listening to the questions and answers. Overall it was fun and I'm excited to learn more.

On Tuesday, the 29th of April 2025, the Senior Learning community had an incursion with Professor Michael. Our incursion was about animals and their habitat adaptations. Professor Michael told us about his university journey to becoming a biologist and then eventually becoming a game creator of ‘Arludo’. We asked him about his career and we also took some notes in our classroom. Everyone across the Senior Learning community learnt different things about spiders, red-back spiders and about Professor Michael’s game, ‘Inglorious Baskers’. My favourite fact is that while the red-back spiders mating, the female spider eats the male! I really enjoyed this and I hope to have an experience like this again.

On Tuesday 29th April, the Senior Learning community had an incursion with Dr Michael from Arludo. He was really enthusiastic about teaching us, his job as a biologist and his passion for animals. His enthusiasm pushed us to make our dreams come true in what we are interested in. He taught us a lot about spiders too, I learned that female spiders are bigger than the male ones and the life of the lizards - how they can grow really large.
