Junior Excursion to Werribee Zoo

On Wednesday the 21st May, the Junior Community went on an exciting excursion to the Werribee Open Range Zoo. The excursion was bringing together the learnings they had been doing on natural habitats; including both plants and animals in those environments. Learners experienced a safari bus tour on which they saw camels, giraffe, Scimitar Oryx, many zebras and rhinos (whose obvious displeasure made the bus keep moving) as it went to protect its young.

On the walking tour for group 1, the male lion showed it’s dominance with its loud roar whilst for group 2, a female lion, up high on its back legs, was lunging and pawing on the glass to get to the learners. The newly arrived elephants were worth the long, long trek to get there. The baby elephants were so cute to see and the expanse of land they live on is amazing!

The habitat lesson showed how much the learners had already gained through the Inquiry unit. Learner’s asked questions about animals in different environments and others would answer immediately with comments such as “No, that would live in the Arctic” rather than saying ‘that would be in the snow.’ The children had a wonderful day. Come to our assembly on Monday the 2nd of June to see more photos.
