Book Week at St James

This week our school has been buzzing with excitement as we celebrated Book Week! Learners and staff came together to share their love of reading through a range of fun activities.

We began with our much-loved Book Week Parade, where students proudly dressed up as their favourite book characters. The creativity and enthusiasm on display made the morning truly special.

Throughout the week, students also enjoyed a range of engaging activities:

  • A Bad Guys Hunt around the school, where learners searched for hidden characters from Aaron Blabey’s popular series.
  • A Book Emoji Competition, where students decoded story titles written in emojis – a tricky but fun challenge!
  • Teacher Story Time, where teachers shared their favourite books with classes, sparking conversations about the stories we love.

One of the highlights was an online author incursion with Michael Salmon. He shared insights into the writing process, inspired our budding authors, and even demonstrated how to draw characters in his fun, creative style. Students were captivated and came away with new skills and ideas to bring to their own storytelling.

On Thursday, the library was opened for families after school to read and enjoy the books we have at school. Families were also able to use kiosks to listen to books being read.
