Junior Learning Community Update

It has been an incredibly busy and productive term in the Junior Community, with our learners enthusiastically engaging in new concepts across all areas of the curriculum. In Literacy, students have continued developing their skills through the Playberry Laser Phonics program while also strengthening their writing by moving from simple to more complex sentences. A particular focus has been placed on adding rich detail to their writing and using commas correctly to enhance clarity and expression.

We read words and write them using our phoneme fingers.

In Religion, students have engaged in thoughtful and reflective learning about the events following Jesus’ death, particularly the Ascension and Pentecost. We have also explored the important role of women within these stories. It has been wonderful to witness the students’ curiosity, understanding, and confidence continue to grow each day.

We learnt about the Holy Spirit and Pentecost!

In Mathematics, our young mathematicians have been exploring place value with 2 and 3 digit numbers, building strong foundations for our ongoing work in addition and subtraction. Students have also been working hard to improve their fact fluency, challenging themselves to answer as many questions as possible within two minutes. It has been wonderful to see their confidence and speed grow each week.

We get to learn new things in Maths!

Our Inquiry unit has transformed the students into mini scientists as they investigate the Earth’s rotation and its impact on seasons and weather. As part of this learning, students enjoyed creating their own weather vanes and testing them outside to observe wind direction firsthand.

We do fun stuff in Inquiry.

On Monday 11th May, the entire Junior Community participated in a live incursion with Inform and Empower. Students explored important topics including green time, online safety, limiting screen time before bed, and healthy ways to help our brains wind down after a busy day.
